2021
Acquisition of telecom assets announced
Apollo Global Management, Inc. announced an agreement to acquire Lumen’s incumbent local exchange (ILEC) carrier assets and all associated operations across 20 states. At the time, the telecom assets could serve more than six million homes and businesses across the Midwest and Southeast regions of the United States.
2021
Brightspeed brand is launched
The newly formed company announces its new brand, Brightspeed and its mission to make a multi-billion-dollar investment in delivering a high-speed fiber internet network to millions of homes and businesses across its 20-state footprint. Additionally, the company announced its headquarters would be in Charlotte, North Carolina.
2022
Brightspeed officially launches operations and starts fiber network builds
Following the completion of its acquisition of ILEC assets, Brightspeed announced the start of its operations and construction of its multi-gig-speed network deployment. Its initial fiber network build goal was to reach more than three million homes and businesses mainly in rural and suburban communities across the Midwest, Southeast, and parts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
2023
Awarded a 2023 Charlotte Top Workplaces honor
The Charlotte Observer honored Brightspeed as one of the 2023 Charlotte Top Workplaces and named the awarded the company the Top Workplaces “Direction Award,” which goes to the company whose employees most understand and agree with their company’s direction.
2024
Brightspeed awarded first BEAD program funds
Brightspeed was awarded its first federal Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) program funds from the state of Louisiana. The state awarded Brightspeed $7,510,130 to help reach an additional 2,800 locations with its planned fiber broadband network build in Louisiana.
2024
Named a 2024 Charlotte Top Workplace for the second year
Brightspeed was once again named a Top Workplace in the Charlotte region.
2025
Company reaches 2M fiber-enabled locations
Brightspeed announced its multi-gig-speed network had passed more than two million locations across its 20-state footprint. Brightspeed’s high-speed internet service is available immediately for installations to hundreds of thousands who have historically lacked the speeds and reliability needed to productively work, learn and stream online or fully participate in ecommerce.
